A keepsake urn is a small memorial container intended to hold a portion of a loved one's ashes. It can offer a way for family members to each keep a personal remembrance, or to keep a small amount when the remaining ashes are placed elsewhere.

The most important detail is capacity. The word “keepsake” does not describe one fixed size. Always read the individual product's capacity before ordering.

How is a keepsake different from a larger urn?

A larger urn may be chosen to hold the complete amount of ashes, provided its capacity is sufficient. A miniature keepsake is intended for a small portion. A similar shape or finish does not mean two urns hold the same amount.

Our medium bronze teardrop urn holds approximately 156 cubic inches, while the large bronze teardrop urn holds approximately 220 cubic inches. These are individual product specifications; check the amount you wish to keep rather than relying only on “small,” “medium” or “large.”

When might you choose a keepsake?

• Sharing a remembrance: several family members may each wish to keep a small portion.
• Keeping a token amount: you may want a personal memorial while the remaining ashes stay in a larger urn or another chosen resting place.
• Creating a small display: a miniature urn may suit a bedside table or a small memorial space. Check the actual dimensions first.

There is no single arrangement that every family needs to follow. Take time to agree on what feels appropriate and how much each person wishes to keep.

How many keepsake urns will you need?

Begin with the number of people who want a keepsake and confirm the amount for each person. Three urns of 3 cu in each provide approximately 9 cu in of combined capacity. That does not mean three keepsakes can hold a complete adult amount.

If someone wants a larger share, compare the actual volume with a medium or larger urn instead. A funeral home or crematory can help confirm portions and assist with transferring ashes if you prefer.

What can be personalized?

The white mini teardrop design offers optional engraving of up to three lines for a name, dates or a short message. Its current listing shows a heart centerpiece, silver floral detailing, a threaded bottom lid and an included velvet bag.
